Bernard Tomic opens up on his vegan lifestyle
Bernard Tomic has opened up on his devotion to veganism as he strives to be more professional in his comeback to tennis.
Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic has opened up on his plant-based lifestyle, revealing he was inspired by Novak Djokovic to become a “proud vegan”.
The former world no. 17 has made a comeback to his tennis career and will complete in the Australian Open qualifiers with an aim to make the main draw at next month’s grand slam.

Tomic is back training and is documenting his journey on social media, where he recently shared his biggest regrets from his controversial past — including his relationship with reality TV star Vanessa Sierra.
The 29-year-old is determined to give his tennis career one last proper crack and has overhauled his diet and even unveiled a new-look haircut.
As stated in his Instagram bio, Tomic is vegan and he recently revealed he turned to the plant-based lifestyle as part of his increasing professionalism.
“You know, I wasn’t very professional with the outside stuff I was doing, with the eating, with the training obviously,” he told The Functional Tennis podcast this week.
“I changed to vegan two and a half, three years ago and I love it, it’s an amazing feeling.”
Tomic said he was inspired by world No. 1 Djokovic, who has long been a proponent of a plant-based diet but prefers not to be labelled vegan.
“A lot of successful people are vegan,” Tomic said.
“I got inspired actually by Novak, so it was something I tried and it worked for me. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to eating anything else so I’m a proud vegan.”
“The taste of meat, don’t get me wrong, it’s unbelievable but like I don’t miss it because there’s animals involved and I’m all about that.
“I mean I believe in Karma, you know you do the right thing and there’s always something around.
“It’s not just that but for my health as well. I mean my health has overall gone a lot better in the last couple of years.”
At the age of 18, Tomic burst onto the scene becoming the youngest player since Boris Becker to make the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2011.
Now he has set himself the goal of making the top 10 in “two or three years”.
“I’m going to try and turn this around and give myself the best chance in the next couple of years. I’ve got one more chance at this. I’ll try and do it for myself,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin earlier this month.
“Now it’s all about getting it right and having a good crack at the next five or six years and trying to get back to the top.”
“I miss that sort of feeling.”
