OFF & RACING: Will Gai wear the Golden Slipper this year?

OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation.

MOONEE VALLEY (Friday night)

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)

TUSCAN SLING

Race 4, No. 4

Should make it four from four on Friday night and three in a row at Moonee Valley. Will love the fast pace again and with the assistance of Jye McNeil’s two-kilogram claim should add another win.

TAB Fixed Odds: $1.70

DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun)

SPECIAL MISS

Race 7, No. 2

Strolled in last start here in a higher rated raced. Goes around with 4.5kg extra but is talented and again has Jake Bayliss’ claim.

TAB Fixed Odds: $7

ROSEHILL (Saturday)

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph)

RISING ROMANCE

Race 2, No. 1

Rising Romance is an outstanding mare and is well treated under the set weights and penalties conditions of the Epona Stakes, given she is a multiple Group 1 winner. She had plenty of excuses when just beaten in the New Zealand Stakes last start and goes into this race third-up and on the improve. She is a class above her rivals and only bad luck will beat her.

TAB Fixed Odds: $1.85

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph)

SWEYNESSE

Race 5, No. 4

Was the best run in the Randwick Guineas for mine and is proven over 2000m. Unless the Kiwi’s serve something up, he’s a moral.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3.10

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)

MAYGROVE

Race 9, No. 3

The New Zealander worked home brilliantly at her Australian debut over 2000m, despite drifting in the market. This looks an ideal stepping stone to further autumn riches.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3.20

DARREN PRENDERGAST (Super Racing)

KNOYDART

Race 6, No. 7

Caught the eye when working home strongly first-up in the Challenge Stakes. Is unbeaten second-up and is yet to miss a place in four starts at this track.

TAB Fixed Odds: $12

BENDIGO

MATT STEWART (Herald Sun)

WRITTEN UP

Race 9, No. 4

Valley was painful to watch; wide, no cover, narrowly pipped. Well drawn, should win.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4

ROD NICHOLSON (Herald Sun)

AKAVOROUN

Race 7, No. 5

Group-class galloper who had flu issues when disappointing as favourite at Flemington. Fit and firing now.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.50

DOOMBEN

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail)

BEWHATYOUWANNABE

Race 2, No. 3

Battled on well enough under the big weight last week and will relish getting back to the mile here. Query whether the fav Hi Son will be as sharp 2nd up and this fellow should be in front of him in the run.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3.20
