Plan to reunite Michael Clarke with ex-wife Kyly Boldy on reality TV

There are suggestions Michael Clarke may come face-to-face with his ex-wife on camera while question marks linger over Sam Burgess’ future.

Rumours are swirling about which sports stars are set to star in the upcoming season of SAS Australia — and which ones will miss out.

The Channel 7 reality show — which pits celebrities through physical and psychological tests from the real SAS selection process — was a hit last year and has even more big names on its list for 2021.

The likes of ironwoman Candice Warner, swimmer James Magnussen, cricketer Mitchell Johnson and footy star Sabrina Frederick were among those athletes to take part in the debut season and there are reports producers have their eyes on more sporting icons this year.

New Idea reports former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke is a target, adding the show is hoping to lure his ex-wife Kyly Boldy onto the show too.

Clarke and Boldy announced their shock separation in early 2020 but remain on good terms as they co-parent young daughter Kelsey Lee. Clarke moved on with fashion designer Pip Edwards, but their relationship broke down earlier this year, while Kyly reunited with former flame, Supercars driver James Courtney, only for that romance to fizzle out.

New Idea also reports retired NRL star Sam Burgess was in line to appear on SAS Australia but recent scandals in his private life — including allegedly returning a positive result during a random roadside drug test — mean his involvement is up in the air.

Rugby league and union icon Sonny Bill Williams is also rumoured to be on the producers’ wish list, the cross-code international having retired from the NRL last year after joining the Roosters mid-season for another tilt at the premiership.

Despite not appearing on the show last year, Williams was a hot topic as Candice Warner addressed her tryst with the footy star at a Sydney hotel in 2007, when the pair were photographed by a member of the public in a bathroom together.

As part of a trust exercise last season, Warner told her fellow contestants: “A long time ago, when I was young, I got myself in a compromising position, which I regret. It had a huge impact on my family. Huge.”

Asked what the “situation” was, Warner refrained from referencing the incident with the then-Canterbury Bulldogs player directly, but spoke about the impact her drunken mistake from 14 years ago continues to have on her life.

“So … it was just a personal situation. Too many drinks,” she said.

“Living with that and having to explain to my kids in the future is going to be very difficult. Especially when you’ve got three girls.

“I remember sitting on the side of the street and not being able to take it anymore. And just thinking, ‘If this is what life’s about then I can’t take it anymore’.

“Yes, I’d made a mistake. But is that really worth, every single day, the media trying to drag me down? I don’t think so.”

Earlier in the series Warner revealed she was still haunted by her liaison with the famous football star.

“It is something I am not proud of but something I can never take back,” Warner said.

“I put myself in a situation where I shouldn’t have and because of that I brought embarrassment (and) shame to my family.”
