‘Worst I’ve ever seen’: Wrestler goes viral after being impaled on light tube

A sickening injury from a wrestling match in Mexico earlier this week has gone viral with fans horrified after a fighter was impaled through the arm by a light tube.

Held at Queretaro Arena in the city of Santiago de Queretaro, which is about 250km north-west of Mexico City, Joe Lider took on Ursus in a hardcore “Championship vs. Championship” match in the co-main event of the night.

Hardcore wrestling, which can also be known as extreme or deathmatch wrestling, is a form of pro wrestling where normal rules don’t apply and competitors can use various items and weapons, including light tubes, ladders, tables, thumbtacks, chains, barbed wire and razor blades, or whatever else the wrestler can find.

However, the Lider-Ursus fight went very wrong very quickly after Lider called for a light tube, which he put in a corner.

Ursus then ran at his opponent, with Lider flipping Ursus into the light tube.

The tube exploded — but that’s when things went wrong as a fragment of the tube pierced Ursus through his left arm.

Lider was playing up to the crowd and didn’t realise his opponent’s predicament as Ursus began kicking his legs in pain.

Lider and the referee quickly realised the issue unfolding on the canvas, calling the fight and bringing in paramedics who took the fighter out on a stretcher.

The referee was heard saying: “Stop, stop, we need help!”

To make the scene even more surreal, Ursus then sat up on the stretcher and ran around the ring before being ushered away.

Lider appeared to be devastated by the situation, sitting on his haunches and looking upset by what had unfolded.

After the incident, Lider was declared the victor and awarded the championships, but refused to accept them before stating he’d wait for Ursus to recover for a rematch.

However, video of the dramatic injury quickly went viral with over 1.2m views on X after the sickening blow.

One fan tweeted: “Welp, that’s the new worst deathmatch injury I’ve ever seen.”

Another posted: “Oh f**k, you can see it under the flesh.”

Another commented: “Didn’t realise what was happening at first and when i saw it I f**king threw my phone jesus CHRIST.”

A fourth posted: “What if we just don’t? What if we get in the ring and just paint each others nails or smth.”

A fifth said: “I legit gasped, turned off my phone and went stone white once I saw it. Holy s**t dude.”

There were also concerns for Ursus’ health after the fight but reports emerged that he was in recovery after surgery.

Ursus also shared his condition on Facebook after the injury, writing: “Thank you all for your comments. Thank God I’m already home recovering and hopefully very soon we’ll see each other again in the arenas.”
