Collingwood coach Craig McRae has wrapped his side’s brilliant comeback season with a hilarious swipe at star Jordan De Goey over his indiscretions this season.

At the club’s best and fairest count on Friday night, McRae stole the show, roast the club’s stars in a hilarious 13-minute speech.

But the most cutting comment was directed at De Goey after the star ran into behavioural issues throughout the season.

“Trying to build culture, you need strong relationships,” he started.

“For me, it starts with love and support.

“Now our love and support travelled far and wide this year, from New York to Bali … and all the way up to the Gabba.”

The crowd quickly caught onto what he meant and we left in hysterics as McRae added: “We love you, Jordy! I’ve learnt to turn my phone off in off-seasons.”

De Goey has a long rap sheet from his AFL career and 2022 was no different.

The 26-year-old was fined $10,000 by the AFL his involvement in a late-night incident in New York at the end of last year.

He pleaded guilty to a harassment charge and was ordered to attend anger management and alcohol therapy sessions.

Then midway through the season, De Goey caused a storm when he was seen partying in Bali during the bye-week break.

The act saw him slammed by former players and pundits and question marks as to whether the Pies would cut him loose.

De Goey’s response also raised eyebrows, initially slamming the “relentless pursuit and persecution of athletes by the media” and linked his ADHD diagnosis to the Bali incident.

Soon after he release a stage-managed video apologising for the incident through the Magpies social media.

Both the Pies and De Goey both were furious about the incident reportedly but the 26-year-old was as revelation as the Pies went all the way to the preliminary final, losing a one-point thriller to the Swans.

It saw him linked to exit from Collingwood throughout the season, but after initially rejecting a five-year contract extension over “behavioural clauses”, his deal was confirmed on Friday.

But De Goey wasn’t the only player roasted by the coach, as Jeremy Howe, Scott Pendlebury and Darcy Cameron were next.

“Howie’s 200th game at the Gabba – it was great to love and support him for his achievement this year,” he said.

“If only he kicked a goal outside 50 – that would have been memorable.

“We took our love and support to the Adelaide Oval with Pendles playing his 350th game. I thought half of Sale was there!

“We took our love and support to the MCG for Darcy Cameron’s 40th game – good on you Darcy!

“I took the piss out of Darcy every single game so I owe him that one – well done. He actually asked: ‘Could I get chaired off in my 40th game?’, I said: ‘Mate, you’ve gone too far’.”

Jack Crisp was the big winner of the awards ceremony, winning a second-straight Copeland Trophy.

The line-breaking midfielder is just the 17th Magpies player to ever win the club champion award in consecutive years and the first since Brodie Grundy in 2018-19.

Pendlebury (2013-16) and Steele Sidebottom (2017-18) are also among that exclusive group, alongside club legends Nathan Buckley, Len Thompson and Bob Rose.

Crisp, who is out of contract next year but keen to sign a long-term deal, polled in every match to finish on 291 votes, just ahead of Pendlebury (276) and star defender Darcy Moore (269).
