He soared to heights we haven’t seen for years and Gary Ablett was Geelong’s best player against Hawthorn on Monday, according to Herald Sun readers.

Ablett attracted 35 per cent of the 1122 reader votes after Monday’s victory, pipping teammate Tim Kelly (30 per cent) to number one in the reader vote.

Reporter Jon Ralph left Ablett out of his votes, preferring Kelly, Hawk Ricky Henderson and Patrick Dangerfield.

Ablett was roundly booed by Hawthorn fans but responded with 23 disposals, three goals and a mark to savour.
