Woman on mobility scooter hit by train, critically injured
The woman, who uses a mobility scooter, is believed to have fallen onto the tracks moments before the train passed through.
A woman is fighting for life after being struck by a train after falling from her mobility scooter and onto the tracks.
The woman, 56, was waiting on a platform at Ormond train station in Melbourne when she fell just before 10am.
She was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
It is believed to have accidentally fallen onto the tracks after her scooter got too close to the edge of the platform.
Anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t spoken with police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Acting Senior Sergeant Rowan Epstein told 9 News the woman was believed to have fallen less than a minute before a train that was not stopping at the station passed through.
He also said there were people present on the platform but no one had reported seeing the woman fall before the incident.
It is believed the train driver called police, and paramedics arrived and transferred the woman to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.
Metro Trains advised travellers there would be buses replacing train services “due to a person hit by a train.”
