Update after man shot during ‘altercation’ at property in regional Victoria

A man was shot at a regional property in a small Victorian town, sparking a manhunt for the alleged gunman.

A man has been charged and will soon face court after another man was shot in a small town in western Victoria.

Police allege the 40-year-old was shot during a dispute at a property on Kings Ave in St Arnaud, between Bendigo and Horsham, at about 7.20am on Monday.

The man was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition with a non life-threatening injury to his upper body.

Police allege it was a targeted incident and that the parties are known to one another.

The shooting sparked a manhunt for the alleged gunman, with police arresting a 37-year-old man after intercepting his vehicle at Lake Bolac, about 143km south of St Arnaud.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries allegedly sustained during the dispute.

The St Arnaud man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, intentionally cause injury, common law assault, use firearm contrary to firearms prohibition order, theft of motor vehicle, drive whilst disqualified, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, commit indictable offence while on bail, and contravene a conduct condition of bail.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Stawell Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
