Bigfoot protesters raise eyebrows on busy Melbourne street

Melburnians stunned by bizarre protest

A rowdy group of protesters have struck alarm among Melbourne locals after they took to a busy city street with loud chanting and even louder costumes.

The sizeable procession featured young adults yelling out “Bigfoot is real” and displaying homemade signs with the same message as they marched down Swanston Street in the CBD.

Leading the pack was a man dressed as a “man frog” holding a sign that read: “man frog stands with Bigfoot”.

Behind him a man carried a sign that read, “Bigfoot rights” while people behind him wore bear costumes and one handed out “give feet a chance” flyers.

One man carried a sign saying, “not just a gorilla” and another that said, “tooth fairy is real and Bigfoot’s my daddy”.

Several members of the group donned tin foil hats and walked with a long green banner draped over them, while one was spotted carrying a “generic angry slogan” sign.

A standout costume was that of a woman wearing a foot that covered her entire body.

Behind her, a man displayed a sign saying, “legalise fairydust”.

It’s understood the group were executing a mock protest as part of a university “prosh” challenge.

Prosh is a week-long game involving multiple teams, with each completing a list of tasks in order to earn themselves points.

Teams in Melbourne are made up of students from The University of Melbourne, RMIT and the Swinburne University of Technology.

While to many the rally was obviously a gaffe, one observer suspected they were legitimately protesting in favour of Bigfoot rights.

Posting a video to Reddit, they wrote, “Bigfoot is real #givefeetachance – an actual protest happening in the streets right now. Better than anti vaxxers”.

Viewers were fast to acknowledge satirical nature of the protest, many praising the group’s subtle jabs at anti-vaxxer protesters.

“It looks like they’re having a heap of fun while also calling out anti-anything protesters that frequent the city (and air breathing) too often,” one comment read.

“The aluminium foil hats do it for me,” another wrote.

“Good to see some fun satire returning to the city. A good ol’ p*ss take is a cornerstone of Aussie culture,” a third said.
