The Aussie Cossack, Simeon Boikov, stages Sydney protest after early release from prison

A notorious anti-vaxxer and pro-Russian YouTuber, who was released from prison early, has taken to Sydney’s CBD with a large-scale protest.

Infamous YouTuber and controversial online personality, Simeon Boikov, who goes by the online moniker of the Aussie Cossack, has been released from prison early.

Boikov was jailed in late June for breaching two court orders for naming an alleged paedophile during an anti-vaxxer rally. The 32-year-old is known for his outspoken anti-vaxxer views, and Pro-Putin and Russia beliefs.

Initially he was sentenced to a 10-month stint at south Sydney’s Long Bay Correctional Complex, with a non-parole period of six months. However Boikov was released on parole on Friday.

During this time, his social media channels were manned by his wife, Ekaterina Olshannikova, who also goes by the name Katia Boikova.

On Thursday, Ms Boikova announced the news in a YouTube video titled: “BREAKING: The Aussie Cossack WINS District Court appeal and will be released in days!”.

Appearing at the Downing Centre District Court via video, his lawyers appealed against the severity of this initial sentence. His lawyers argued that Boikov had been placed in segregation for a month and was jailed with terrorists and killers, The Daily Telegraph reports.

“My husband, the Aussie Cossack will be released this Friday,” she said, in a video that has accumulated more than 44,000 views in three days.

“This has been a team effort by all of us together … The Aussie Cossack will take over the channel back (sic) from this Friday on. Get ready.”

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Boikov’s barrister, Mark Davis said his client “regrets naming the individual and making that disclosure”.

“But what I put to the court was the alleged acts related to someone who has an extremely close relationship with Mr Boikov,” said Mr Davis.

“Nevertheless, he regrets breaching the order.”

Boikov stages protest day after leaving jail

Boikov was seen in Sydney’s Town Hall on Saturday afternoon protesting against police intimidation alongside a legion of supporters and fans.

The large-scale gathering, dubbed the World Wide Rally for Freedom was livestreamed on YouTube and saw Boikov protesting against compulsory vaccine mandates on professions like policing and firefighting.

“First day back from jail, straight to the front lines, marching with thousands of like-minded patriots against this government bureaucracy,” he said in a video shared on early Saturday.

“Today we are sending a very clear message. A message of defiance.”

Similar protests were also planned Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
