Murrumbeena: Mitch from The Block outbid at flash auction for new TV gig
Former The Block winner Mitch Edwards missed out on a pad over the weekend when bidding for a new TV gig. See what it sold for.
Despite cold and drizzly conditions, six buyers fought it out for a two-bedroom unit in Murrumbeena on Saturday — including former The Block winner Mitch Edwards.
Mr Edwards, who won the 17th season of the hit TV show in 2021 with his partner Mark Mckie, was bidding on behalf of a buyer for Channel 10’s upcoming season of Location, Location, Location Australia.
It was announced earlier this year that Mitch and Mark would return to reality screens as hosts of the reimagined lifestyle series.

But in a whirlwind, two-minute auction that was “over in a flash”, Mr Edwards missed out on the 4/67 Ardyne St pad after conceding at the $770,00 mark.
The vendor, Jacqui Johnson, had owned the property for nearly 25 years and had a reserve of $760,000.
It ultimately sold for $785,000 under the hammer to a buyer who lived on the same street and was bidding on behalf of her first-home buyer sister, currently living overseas.
Ray White Carnegie agent Jin Ling said the successful bidder was wanting her sister to live close by in the future.
“She has no plans to move back to Australia in the next 12 to 18 months, but they had a view that property prices would increase from here so they wanted to secure something as soon as possible,” Mr Ling said.
Ms Johnson purchased the 1950-built property as her first home in 2005, when she paid just $165,000, PropTrack data shows.
“Looking back it was relatively cheap in comparison to today but at the time it felt like a lot of money,” she said.
“I sacrificed a lot of be able to afford it so I’m very attached. When I bought it I had the 10 per cent deposit but because I wasn't working, I had to come up with 20 per cent … so I got a job overseas and lived off two-minute noodles to save the extra 10 per cent.”
Ms Johnson and her husband lived at the home initially until having two children, after which her mother moved in for six years.
“I always wanted to keep it … it’s my first home and my favourite place,” she said, adding that the sale was “bittersweet”.
“I just love these old places with character and history because they’re already proven to stand the test of time.”
She added that some of her original neighbours still lived there and the community always felt safe for her and her mother.
“My husband was worried I might chain myself to the building,” Ms Johnson joked.
