Victorian family offers their house for sale for just $5000 — delivery not included
A home listed for sale with a tiny price tag of just $5000 could be one of the most affordable ways to get a roof over your head. But there’s a minor catch.
Want a house for $5000? The Shiells family in regional Victoria are happy to part ways with their place for that price — you just have to come and collect it.
The family of four are almost finished building their dream home on their Bamawm property, and looking forward to moving out of the original home at the address they’ve been living in during construction for the past three years.
But rather than just bulldoze the house, Brenton Shiells said he’s hoping to help another family get a roof over their head by relocating the three-bedroom, one-bathroom house — rather than them “spending $500,000 building a new one from scratch”.

The house has easily accommodated him and his wife Ashlee, son Chase, 8, daughter Charlee, 4, and their three border collies, Benji, Bella and Bonnie.
But in a few months time, once their new home is finished, they’ll be happy to part ways with their old residence for next to nothing.
“It’s only problem is that it would need restumping, but that’s not so much of a problem if you relocate it — because you’ll have new stumps waiting,” Mr Shiells said.
“But everything in there is working.”
While there is some cracking in the plasterwork of the home that has occurred over time, the frame beneath it is in good condition, he added.
Mr Shiells said while he’d gotten the idea after seeing others listing homes for relocation online, the fact that the house used to film cult Aussie flick The Castle had also been trucked to a new location showed recycling houses could work.
That residence, once located on Dagonet St, Strathmore, was trucked off to Beechworth in late 2017.
It was sold for $40,000 at an auction that touted it as a piece of Australian film history.
The Shiells family expect to be willing to hand over their old home from April 1 this year.
