Police have released photos of a group who may be able to assist with inquiries after a lifeguard was allegedly bashed while on duty at a leisure centre in Melbourne’s southeast.

A 19-year-old lifeguard was patrolling Casey Aquatic Recreation Centre in Narre Warren shortly before 6pm on Sunday when he was approached by a group of teenagers and assaulted, police say.

The teenagers allegedly bashed, kicked and headbutted the lifeguard, leaving his uniform covered in blood.

According to reports from 9News, the lifeguard previously spoke to the group about performing dangerous stunts, including flips, near other swimmers.

The lifeguard was transported to Dandenong Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including cuts and bruises.

He has since been discharged.

Police say a group of up to eight males, who have been described as of Middle Eastern appearance, left the scene after the alleged assault.
