Police investigate two suspicious Melbourne deaths
Police are investigating after the bodies of two women were found days apart in apartments in central Melbourne this week.
Police have confirmed they are treating the death of two women in Melbourne this week as suspicious after a body was found in an apartment the day before New Year’s Eve.
Victoria Police said they attended Waterside Place, Docklands, at about 1:30pm on Friday, where they found the body of a 51-year-old woman.
Officers said they attended the address as a part of their investigation into the death of a 31-year-old Chinese woman, who was found in an apartment in Latrobe St in Melbourne’s CBD at about 8:40pm on Tuesday.
Police believe the deaths are linked.
In a statement released on New Year’s Eve, Victoria Police said a 22-year-old Huntingdale man had been arrested in Preston on Thursday, where he was charged with murder, robbery and theft and remanded in custody.
They said they thought the man was known to each of the women, while at this stage they were not looking for anyone further in relation to the deaths.
Detective Acting Superintendent Dean Thomas said the thoughts of police were with the women’s families during a “devastating time.”
“I understand there’s a lot of concern and anxiety from the community, particularly those who reside in the CBD and surrounding suburbs, following the death of both these women this week,” Detective Acting Superintendent Thomas said.
“At this stage, there is nothing to indicate that we are looking for any further victims, and we have a man in custody who was known to both women,” he said.
