Man charged over a break-in at Chaithanya Madhagani’s Point Cook home: ‘Terrible’
The home of slain Melbourne woman Chaithanya Madhagani has been subject to a “terrible” act just days after her body was found.
The home of slain Melbourne woman Chaithanya Madhagani has allegedly been robbed just days after her body was found in a wheelie bin.
Two people allegedly broke into the property four days after Ms Madhagani’s body was discovered in a bin near Geelong on March 9.
A crime scene had been established at the property, and police had removed a vehicle from the garage as part of their investigations into the 35-year-old food safety expert’s death.
According to police, two people were arrested in Werribee on the same day as the alleged break-in, which they believe happened about 10.30am on March 13.
A vehicle taken from the Point Cook property was also recovered. It is not clear if this is the same vehicle police had removed.
A 32-year-old Werribee man remains in police custody, charged with burglary and theft of motor vehicle, while a 32-year-old woman, also from Werribee, was released “pending further inquiries”.
The man will face court in early April.
“At this time police do not believe the burglary is connected to the current Homicide Squad investigation linked to this property,” Victoria Police told news.com.au.
Detectives still hope to speak with Ms Madhagani’s 38-year-old husband, Ashok Raj Varikuppala, in relation to the alleged murder.
Last week it was revealed by numerous Australian media outlets Ms Madhagani’s husband had turned up at her father’s home in Hyderabad in, India.
Mr Varikuppala reportedly told Ms Madhagani’s family he would return to Australia and seek to speak to authorities.
Neighbours described the alleged break-in at Ms Madhagani’s home as a “terrible” act, the ABC reports.
