HOMICIDE detectives are investigating the death of a man in Victoria’s northwest yesterday evening.

A neighbour told the Herald Sun he heard what sounded like a gun shot.

But he said police knocking door to door looking for witnesses told him there had been a stabbing in Makepeace St, Swan Hill.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Amelia Penhall said emergency services were called to the property before 8pm.

“A man aged in his 30s was transported to hospital in a critical condition where he later died,” she said.

A woman was arrested at the property and was assisting police with their inquiries.
