Five men charged over Melbourne nightclub stabbing which left teen in coma
Men have been charged over a stabbing in a major night-life precinct which left a teen in a coma.
Five Melbourne men have been charged after an 18-year-old was repeatedly stabbed outside a nightclub.
The 18-year-old underwent three surgeries and was placed in a coma following the incident earlier this month.
A 19-year old Caroline Springs man was charged and held in custody to appear in court on Thursday, charged with recklessly causing serious injury.
Four other men, aged from 18 to 25, were bailed on more minor assault-related offences.
The incident happened about 1am on Little Chapel Street in South Yarra.
In a statement released on Thursday, police say a brawl broke out in a nightclub toilet area.
The confrontation spilt into the street.
An 18-year-old man “suffered serious stab wounds” in the buttocks and groin area, and was placed in an induced coma, police say. Three surgeries to his midsection and lower body were required.
On Wednesday morning police carried out synchronised raids in Caroline Springs, Donnybrook and South Melbourne, seizing mobile phones, other devices and clothing they believe to be relevant to the investigation.
The 19-year-old held in custody has been charged with recklessly causing serious injury, assault-related offences, affray, and failing to comply with direction to assist.
The four other men are charged with assault-related offences including affray, and failing to comply with direction to assist. They are expected in the Melbourne Magistrates Court in November.
Another man was interviewed and released without charge.
