Heavy rain on the way across eastern Tasmania, says BoM
PLANNING to mow the lawn or recline on a banana lounge this weekend? Think again.
THE Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a drenching for eastern Tasmania this weekend, with 20-40mm of rain expected to fall across the Hobart area and even more across the state’s north east.
Sunday’s Point to Pinnacle race is expected to bear the brunt of the rain, which is expected to become heavy in Hobart late on Saturday and continue until Sunday evening.
BoM forecaster Debbie Tabor said strong winds were expected to accompany the rain.

Ms Tabor said flood watches would be issued for northern and north eastern river systems and falls as high as 100mm in parts of the north east could cause local flash flooding.
She said a low-pressure system forecast to pass over Bass Strait was expected to cause the weather band to progress south along eastern Tasmania during Saturday.
On Saturday, St Helens can expect between 25-45mm of rain, St Marys 30-60mm, and the central north 15-40mm.
