Housing and Urban Development Minister John Rau and Napier MP Jon Gee visited the site on Thursday, June 12, to mark the start of construction.

“The Playford Alive town park was designed with the input of the community and will become an asset not just for local residents but for the wider region,” Mr Rau said.

Mr Gee led a sod turning ceremony at the site and said the park would entice visitors from across the northern suburbs.

The park is expected to be completed in early 2015.

It will be built on vacant land owned by the State Government next to the Stretton Centre, which is also under construction.

The $16.6 million centre, to be opened in May, 2015, will provide learning, employment and research services and will house a new library.
