Welcome to the Port Lincoln News, as The Messenger launches a daily news website covering the lower Eyre Peninsula

Port Lincoln and communities on the lower Eyre Peninsula now have a dedicated daily news website with the launch of The Port Lincoln News. Find out more here.

Introducing the Port Lincoln News

For the first time in its history, The Advertiser’s Messenger Community News will have a presence in Port Lincoln and surrounds with the launch of a daily online news site.

The Port Lincoln News will deliver the stories that matter most to residents of the region, which encompasses four councils and about 100 local towns.

It is Messenger’s fifth digital-only masthead, after the Barossa, Clare and Gawler News last week joined the already-established Upper Spencer Gulf News, Adelaide Hills News and The City news sites.

All are published by The Advertiser’s community newspaper division, Messenger Community News, and access to read the stories is included as part of a digital subscription to The Advertiser.

The launch recognises the undeniable role the regions play in tourism, food, wine and sport across South Australia.

Journalist and former Cowell local Emily Jarvis has been named editor of the publication.

Emily was working on the Dalby Herald in Queensland before making the move back home to start up the Port Lincoln News.

“I absolutely loved my time up in Queensland, it was the perfect place for me to find my feet in the world of journalism and that is why I am excited to bring those skills back to a community that matters to me,” she said.

“From celebrating our local heroes and our sports stars, to pursuing the latest across our many councils and helping tell the stories that need to be told, I’m here to help be your voice.

“If you have a story you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

The Advertiser’s Morning Editor Rod Savage said it was an exciting time for local journalism.

“It’s fantastic to be able to talk about growth and expanding our coverage of local news at this time,” he said.

“Our five digital-only mastheads are an important part of our strategy to create sustainable local journalism in this state. We’re hoping communities see the value in subscribing to these mastheads and engage with our dedicated reporters in these regions.”
