Police have charged a man over a crash that killed a father at Murray Bridge.
Grant Carter, 37, was walking with another friend along Adelaide Rd near the intersection of Keith St, just before 3.30am on Wednesday, July 10, when he was struck by a Toyota sedan.
Mr Carter – a father to 15-year-old son Ethan, three daughters and a stepdaughter – was treated at the scene but succumbed to his injuries.
Major Crash investigators on Thursday night charged the Toyota sedan driver – a 37-year-old man from Murray Bridge – with one aggravated count of driving without due care.
He was bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court in November.
Mr Carter’s devastated family described him as a “colourful character”, who was part of a maintenance group on a farm fixing homes of Aboriginal residents.
Ethan’s nan, Heather Paterson, told The Advertiser at the time that Mr Carter’s death was “a total shock”.
“He called the children ‘unky’ for some unknown reason and these boys have kept that nickname between each other … because it came from Uncle Grant,” she said.
