Neighbours shocked after man shot, another wounded with axe in fight at Littlehampton in Adelaide Hills
MYSTERY continues to surround a violent confrontation in the Adelaide Hills that left one man shot with a rifle and another with an axe wound to his neck.
MYSTERY continues to surround a violent confrontation in the Adelaide Hills that left one man shot with a rifle and another with an axe wound to his neck.
Police are yet to speak with either of the critically-injured men, who were involved in the confrontation in a carport of the Rule Ct home at Littlehampton about 5.15pm Sunday.
A Littlehampton man, 24, who was hit in the torso, was standing in the carport when he was shot with a rifle fired by the 30-year-old Kensington man, police said.
It is believed the resident fought back by using a tomahawk, or small axe, to strike the older man in the back of the neck.
The man with neck injuries suffered more serious injuries than the shot resident, police said.
Police are yet to reveal what prompted the violence, other than to assure residents both men were known to each other and that the attack was not random.
A man who said he was the brother of the female resident, collected children’s mattresses and other items from the home on Monday.
The man said his sister was doing “as well as can be expected” but would not reveal the nature of the relationship between the two men.
The Advertiser has learnt the Rule Ct home was bought for $570,000 in April by a couple with two young children.
The woman runs a successful business in Canberra but returned to South Australia earlier this year with her family.
The injured men remained in Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical but stable condition and were yet to be interviewed by police.
Charges have not been laid while the investigation continues, as police said they expected to speak to both men in due course.
The rifle and tomahawk were seized by police, while bloodied towels and crime scene tape were left near the garage.
It remains unclear if the female occupant and her children were home at the time.
An ambulance spokesman said they had responded to a “hysterical” 000 call after the incident.
Local residents said the first they saw or heard of the incident was when police and ambulances arrived.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said the peaceful cul-de-sac had been uneventful until Sunday evening.
“I was a bit shocked, there was no noise at all. It was out of the ordinary,” he said. Another resident was worried about the children but said it was “a one-off incident”.
The four-bedroom house was unoccupied on Monday as detectives left the scene after forensic examiners scoured the carport for evidence.
Police have asked anyone who knows more about the incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
