Sydney’s Blue Angel restaurant to pop huge champagne bottles at cancer fundraiser
The corks on two of the biggest bottles of Champagne available in the world are set to pop in Sydney this weekend, with three people needed to pour the 30-litre bottle.
The corks on two of the biggest bottles of Champagne available in the world are set to pop in Sydney this weekend at a charity lunch to raise money for children with cancer.
Each bottle contains 30 litres of French bubbly and it will take three waiters to pour 140 glasses from one of the bottles at the function to be held at the Blue Angel restaurant on Sunday.
“The other bottle will be auctioned off along with a lunch or dinner for fifty,” said restaurateur Marcello Marcobello.
“I got the last two bottles available shipped over from France, which would cost about $25,000 each and are normally only made to order.”
More than 100 guests have already forked out $600 to attend the lunch.
“It’s all for a very good cause to help kids, enjoy some fine food, and celebrate my 80th birthday as well,” he said.
The event will help the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Masonicare, which raises money for charities and disaster relief.
“We are deeply grateful for Marcello Marcobello’s support,” said the Cancer Centre director Dr Luciano Dalla-Pozza.
