Kid Mullet Cup winner announces bold plans

What’s in a look? It seems the answer is a lot for Aussie country singer Lane Pittman, whose luscious locks have become a trademark of sorts since he appeared as a contestant on The Voice.

But the 18-year-old from Tamworth claims to know little about men’s grooming, instead relying on the expertise of his girlfriend.

“My partner washes my hair a couple times a week … she loves to curl my mullet and makes sure it looks nice because I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing with it,” Pittman told The Daily Telegraph.

“When people see the mullet, I know they think ‘Oh, this kid has grown up full on country and he must live on a farm with cattle and horses’, when in reality none of my friends even listen to country or have farms.”

Not only is the country singer’s hair pampered, it’s styled with a Dyson Airwrap, which retails for $850 and is on every girl’s wish list.

Beyond just making waves around the nation with his mullet, Pittman recently took home his first Golden Guitar for New Talent of the Year at the 53rd annual Country Music awards in Tamworth.

Currently on tour with one of country music’s biggest stars, Luke Combs, Pittman didn’t hold back when celebrating his big win.

“I celebrated pretty hard as one does when they win their first major award,” he said.

“It was just an unreal night to also play for 35,000, just amazing.”

With more than 190,000 monthly Spotify listeners, Pittman is soaking in the music scene as country continues to gain global traction, with artists like Beyoncé helping broaden its reach.

“Country has been really special for the last few years,” Pittman said.

“I mean, 92 per cent of country streams come from metro areas like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, which blows my mind,” Pittman said.

When his major tour with Combs wraps up in coming weeks, Pittman is eager to hit the studio and create new music that will continue to resonate with his growing fanbase.
