Coronavirus Australia: Sydney Girls High School cancel Trial HSC exams after COVID-19 case

A Sydney high school has suspended its trial HSC exams and students and staff are self-isolating after a student tested positive for COVID-19.

A Sydney selective high school has been closed and had its trial HSC exams postponed after a student tested positive for COVID-19.

Sydney Girls High School in Moore Park announced it would be closing on Monday, after a student returned the positive test.

A scheduled HSC trial exam had been cancelled and “will be rescheduled and students notified”.

All staff and students have been advised to self-isolate while contact tracing occurs, the school said in a statement.

“The Department has been advised by NSW Health this morning that a student has tested positive for COVID-19.

“The school will be non-operational tomorrow for the on-site attendance of staff and students to allow time for the school to complete contact tracing and have the school cleaned.

“The trial HSC examination planned for tomorrow will not take place. The examination will be rescheduled and students notified.

“The safety and wellbeing of our staff and students is of paramount importance to us at all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to.”

NSW on Sunday reported five new cases of coronavirus. Four of the cases were linked to known clusters, while one case was under investigation.

NSW Health also confirmed the death of a man in his 80s, who died after testing positive to COVID-19.
