A Sydney dad drank 70 vodka cruisers before unleashing a violent rage in which he kicked down a door and brutally bashed a woman, leaving her seriously injured.

Scott Moananu was sentenced to jail in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday for the frightening incident in the west Sydney suburb of Merrylands.

According to agreed facts tendered to court, the 31-year-old called the victim asking for a lift home from a party on Saturday, May 6, when the conversation became heated.

About 5am the next morning, Moananu buzzed into the woman’s apartment building and was let in, but kicked down the unit’s front door without even knocking.

“The accused kicked (the door) with such force, the steel latch of the lock broke away from the door jamb … the door came crashing into the apartment,” the facts read.

“As soon as the accused entered the unit, he rushed towards the victim and without saying a word, punched the victim’s left eye”.

Immediately feeling significant pain, the victim was knocked onto the ground and curled up into a ball to protect herself.

The facts state Moananu continued to punch her face while she was on the floor, causing severe bruising and swelling.

He then repeatedly kicked her all over her body, including one hard kick with his heel to her chest.

“The victim sustained serious injuries to her face, chest and behind her ear,” the facts read.

During the assaults, Moananu continued to threaten the woman, saying “I’ll kill you b**ch”.

Eventually, Moananu stopped his outburst and moved away.

A moment of stillness allowed the victim to flee the apartment to a family member’s place, where she called the police and reported the assault.

About 6pm that night, police visited Moananu, who told them “everything she told police was true”.

In terms of threats to the victim, Moananu said he could not recall everything he said but knew he was swearing and “calling her a f***ing gronk”.

He told police he had drank “70 bottles of vodka cruisers prior, over the course of 14 hours,” the facts read.

During sentencing, Magistrate Laurie Robertson said Moananu had a “lengthy criminal record” and clearly has “lifelong problems”.

“You’ve been subject to community correction orders … you said you would address your alcohol issues,” Mr Robertson said.

“Given this offence, you haven’t abstained from alcohol use … I note your contrition and early guilty plea”.

Moananu pleaded guilty to the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalk or intimidate with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm and destroy or damage property.

He was sentenced to an aggregate term of imprisonment of 11 months, backdated to May 9, with a non-parole period of seven months.

He will be eligible for release on parole on December 8 this year.
