A photo of Uluru’s cascading waterfalls coming to life after heavy rains was the most liked post on Tourism NT’s Instagram (@NTaustralia) for 2023, garnering over 31,000 likes.
Captured by @exploreuluru, the incredible Red Centre phenomenon only occurs a handful of times each year with only one per cent of visitors likely to witness it, let alone capture it on camera.
Uluru continued to prove itself as one of the most picturesque destinations with magical scenes from Wintjiri Wiru taken by Melbourne-based photographer @rayofmelbourne attracting the second most likes at 10,244.
Tourism Minister Joel Bowden said it was great to see the beauty of the Territory showcased on the platform.
“The Northern Territory has the most amazing landscapes, adventure options and authentic Aboriginal tourism experiences. From the Top End to the Red Centre we have an unparalleled reputation as a leading instagramable holiday destination,” he said.
“The imagery on @NTaustralia over the past year once again highlights the Territory’s unique landscapes, outback adventures and Aboriginal cultural experiences showcasing what we have on offer in the Northern Territory.
“The Red Centre features heavily in this year’s top ten and it’s great to see the region showcased to so many potential visitors in this year’s Top Ten.”
A bird’s eye view capturing Katherine’s stunning crystal blue Mataranka thermal pools captured by @changingtides_ came in at a very close third with 10,189 likes.
Reels of a road train driving through the croc-infested Cahills Crossing and travel blogger Sean (@looktheworldintheeye) taking a dip at the serene Bitter Springs made the top five, coming in at fourth and fifth with 10,189 and 6736 likes respectively.
Full-time kangaroo mum Brolga from The Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs, melted hearts on Instagram, gaining over 5,000 likes with picturesque scenes at Rainbow Valley, Daly Waters Pub, The Lost City in Limmen National Park and Kata Tjuta National Park rounded out the Top Ten.
