Karloo, WA: Charges over 3yo boy’s alleged hit and run
Police say a man was under the influence of drugs when he allegedly ran down a three-year-old boy and fled the scene.
A man’s been charged after allegedly running down a young child in his car while under the influence of drugs and fleeing the scene.
It happened about 6pm on March 14 in the Geraldton suburb of Karloo, 424km north of Perth, when a three-year-old was hit by a Hyundai i30 while sitting on the verge along Aaron Close.
He suffered significant injuries and was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital before being flown to Perth Children’s Hospital.
The boy’s grandmother on social media said the boy “nearly died”.
“Fractures and brain surgery team said he’s a miracle child. So everyone please pray for my grandson’s fast recovery,” she said.

Meanwhile, police allege the driver of the i30 fled the scene.
On Wednesday, a 47-year-old Ranegway man was charged with careless driving causing death, grievous bodily harm or bodily harm; driving while impaired by drugs; and driver failed to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning grievous bodily harm.
He’s due to appear in a Geraldton court at a later date.
