A woman has attacked a baby while her mother was holding her in a shocking random attack at a Perth shopping centre.

Western Australian Police are urgently appealing for information in relation to the incident inside the shopping centre in East Victoria Park on Tuesday.

“About 1.25pm, a female approached a mother who was holding her child, before assaulting the child and leaving the area,” WA Police said in a statement.

“The female is not known to the mother and child.”

The child received facial injuries.

The alleged attacker is described as being of medium build, with bleached shaved head and was wearing a pink singlet, grey shorts with white stripes and blue shoes.

Anyone who recognises the female or has information is asked to contact to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperswa.com.au.

The incident follows another shocking attack on an innocent baby.

In August, nine-month-old baby Luka was injured by a stranger while having a picnic with his mother at a Brisbane park.

Police allege a man approached the baby boy and poured a Thermos of hot coffee on him, burning his face and chest.

The 33-year-old man was identified by Chinese media after he allegedly fled the country on his own passport a day before he was identified by Queensland Police.

The boy was left with serious burns on up to 60 per cent of his body and has undergone four surgeries, with the potential he may also need a skin graft.
