The best and most bizarre looks from the Melbourne Cup 2019
Aussie celebs turned heads in bright ensembles and bizarre looks, including pant suits, mini dresses and face-concealing visors.
It’s the race that stops a nation, and what people wear trackside is just as important to some as what happens on the track.
At this year’s Melbourne Cup, Aussie style makers opted for bright colour palettes and flared shapes. Some fashionistas looked scorching, but others threw out some bizarre looks when choosing their Melbourne Cup outfits.
Aussie actor Doris Younane turned up early and turned heads with a sci-fi ’80s look that included a dark blazer with shoulder pads and flared sleeves and pants.
But her eye-catching look was all about her unusual visor headpiece, which covered almost all of her face, with a hat that was half Star Wars and half beach volleyball.
Younane, known for her role as Moira Doyle in McLeod’s Daughters, was hard to spot under the headpiece but still managed to show off a few stunning centimetres of her gorgeous curly hair, which spilt out from beneath the hat.
Fans on social media joked the actor was prepared for anything in her attention-grabbing hat, saying she looked like she could deflect a gas attack with her shiny, low brim.
But we give her full marks for originality. And sun protection.
Jesinta Franklin, former Miss Universe, was beaming in a stunning and super bright yellow dress that showed off the mum-to-be’s enviable figure.
Franklin, who is expecting her first child with her husband, Swans player Lance “Buddy” Franklin, glowed as she strutted through the crowd.
Another WAG, Nadia Bartel, also rocked yellow at the cup, wearing bright fitted pants and a high-necked top with a plunging back. Her canary outfit was so bright photographers had a hard time snapping her without catching some glare, according to our spies.
Bartel paired her outfit with a wide-brimmed hat and a boxy clutch bag, and she wore her hair in a tasteful low braid,
Lady Kitty Spencer, aka, Lady Diana’s niece, was arguably the biggest celebrity in attendance at the Cup. And she didn’t disappoint.
The cousin of Prince William and Harry wore a glam dress by Roland Mouret in striking pink, white and black ombre. The fitted grown had bold flared sleeves, and she paired the dress with strappy heels and a large, black fascinator that appeared to be made out of stiff moulded fabric.
Australian mining billionaire Gina Rinehart was comfortable in flats and a custom muumuu with pompom details. She paired the outfit with an elaborate headpiece featuring pink and white phalaenopsis orchids.
Carrie Bickmore, mum-of-three and host of The Project, stunned in a bright red number that she paired simply with drop earrings and rust-coloured strappy sandals.
Reality TV host and actor Lindsay Lohan also attended the cup, flanked by her little sister Ali Lohan.
Lindsay wore a jewelled and feathered mini dress with a fitted bodice and spaghetti straps as well as jewelled, strappy stiletto heels. Ali wore a high-necked, long-sleeved patterned mini dress and teamed her look with a matching headband and black strappy sandals.
