Melbourne Cup Day 2019 Fashion
Carrie Bickmore has turned heads at the Melbourne Cup in a stunning figure-hugging outfit — and she’s not the only one rocking this sexy trend.
It’s the horse race that brings the whole of Australia to a standstill — but the fashion is just as showstopping as the race.
With the main event kicking off at 3pm, Australia’s stars have been descending at the famous Flemington Racecourse all morning.
Channel 10’s Carrie Bickmore rocked a stunning figure-hugging red dress, leading the way in the style stakes. She’s one of many stars to be rocking a one-shoulder design today, a clear trend taking over Melbourne Cup in 2019. The mum-of-three accessorised her outfit with a jewelled hairclip that held her signature loose waves to the side.

THE ONE SHOULDER CUP TREND
Carrie wasn’t the only one sporting the sexy, one-shoulder design that flashes just the right amount of flesh. Melbourne Cup regular, TV presenter Rachael Finch, also wore a one-shouldered number, hers a bold red dress made by Roland Mouret that she’s paired with a matching hat by Melissa Jackson Millinery.
She gave her 281,000 followers on Instagram a sneak peek at the outfit this morning with a cheeky selfie before boarding an Uber Australia helicopter.
After disembarking from her super luxe mode of transport (our usual Uber X just feels shabby now) Rachael posed up a storm in the stunning outfit.
Her full ensemble included some gorgeously intricate details — including a matching pair of strappy red heels and clutch bag.
Bumble’s director of marketing, Michelle Battersby, attended the marquee hosted by her employer wearing a custom floral pink and red dress by Eliya The Label — ooh and you guessed it, she slipped into a one-shoulder design for the day. She teamed hers with a large pink floral headband.
Another one-shoulder fan today is model and actress Olympia Valance, who chose a simple pink and white design. While her dress was a classic cut, her headpiece definitely wasn’t — simply stunning.
Celebrity fashion stylist, who dressed many of the famous guests at The Birdcage, also chose a one shouldered design — hers in an 80s inspired metallic silver fabric. She teamed the Attico dress with a pair of clear studded heels from her recently launched footwear line.
Former Bachelor star Laura Byrne arrived arm-in-arm with partner Matty J at the Birdcage in a yellow and black one-shouldered outfit that bared her midriff — a Melbourne Cup no, no. Her two-piece outfit made of a crop top and long skirt looked gorgeous alongside Matty J’s white suit, which he had paired with a striped shirt and navy blue tie.
THE STARS ROCK THEIR BEST RACING FROCKS
Jesinta Franklin arrived wearing a yellow dress that hugs her blooming baby bump beautifully. The mum-to-be is about six-months pregnant with her first bub with husband Buddy and is positively glowing at the event.
Attending as a guest of Bumble, she posed beside the brand’s media wall tenderly cradling her bump. Her appearance comes after the race day regular missed Sydney’s Spring racing carnival events in October.
Lady Kitty Spencer, the special guest of Lexus and the Victoria Racing Club’s (VRC) has also joined the line-up of familiar faces at Flemington Racecourse — wearing a grey bodycon midi-dress with flared sleeves.
Princess Diana’s niece stepped onto the field rocking a giant black fascinator style hat, posing with the world famous cup for photographers.
Meanwhile Kerri-Anne Kennerley has also arrived, wearing a bright blue gown emblazoned with red flowers.
Other big names at the event include Lindsay Lohan, who has been in Australia working as a judge on Channel 10’s The Masked Singer. The former child-star chose a nude ensemble for the glamorous event.
Earlier, former Bachelorette star Georgia Love led the arrivals, turning heads at the Mumm marqueein a metallic pink dress with a daringly high thigh split.
Her 80s inspired hot pink outfit is from fashion designer Jason Grech which Georgia has styled with a jewelled headpiece from Lady of Leisure Millinery. The bright accessory features pink, gold and green gems that match her striking outfit.
She’s also wearing a pair of silver strappy heels by celebrity fashion stylist, Lana Wilkinson who recently launched the collection, inspired and named after her famous friends such as Bec Judd and former WAG Nadia Bartel.
She’s not the only Bachelor alum who has revealed her Flemington ensemble, with Anna Heinrich racing day get-up being revealed by her stylist on Instagram.
Lana Wilkinson — a name fashion lovers will know by heart by the end of today — shared a snap of Anna rocking a classic check print custom dress from designer Atoir in a stunning shade of green. She teamed it with a black hat made by Lisa Tan Millinery.
The star herself was feeling pretty happy with her midi-length dress, captioning a full photo she took in a mirrored elevator door: “Feeling like a BOSS.”

Former Block contestant Elyse Knowles however has gone for something a little more playful, choosing to wear a leopard print mini-dress with a plunging neckline for the huge annual event.
Her racy neckline may cause a stir, especially given the model who lives in Bryon Bay rocked a white dress to Derby Day on Saturday that shunned Cup Day rules by revealing her stomach. The structured suit-style dress had two cut outs on her waist.
In photos shared to her Instagram, the Myer ambassador posed up a storm in the ensemble, that she teamed with a large black wide rimmed hat.
She also chose to rock a teeny-tiny black handbag, that was positively miniscule compared to her giant hat.
Other stars have opted for some seriously bold colours, brightening up the dreary 13 degree weather in Melbourne today with their bright outfits.
Former WAG Nadia Bartel captured attention in a canary yellow flared two-piece jumpsuit that featured a racy plunging back detail. She paired the summery design with a matching wide-brim hat that sat on top of a loose bun hairstyle.
Nadia — who split with her husband Jimmy earlier this year — completed her Cup Day attire with a structured white clutch bag.
TV health expert Liv Phyland has gone for a sunny yellow blazer dress, that she’s teamed with a jewelled headband and patching hooped earrings.
While Melbourne WAG Britt Davis has shown up for the festivities in an aquamarine green long-sleeved frock.
Meanwhile actress Doris Younane shunned the bright colour trend for a black blazer suit that she paired with a large visor headpiece.
The McLeod’s Daughters star looked as if she may struggle to breathe properly with the yellow plastic pulled far down on her face, but hey — it’s fashion.
