The reality of having ‘sex like a man’

HAVING ‘sex like a man’ can be liberating, but most importantly leads to hilarious stories come Monday morning, as one Aussie found while living in NY.

HAVING ‘sex like a man’ can be a liberating experience. It means emotionally detaching and just having fun, rather than looking for long term love. It’s not always easy to do, but I’ve met a few people who have given it a pretty good crack.

Here are some of my favourite encounters from my female and gay male friends who love a good sexcapade and don’t bat an eyelid about leaving and never calling again!

Since moving to New York I’ve found the city is rife with promiscuous and detached sex. Everyone is so busy working and trying to ‘make it’ that taking a Samantha stance on intimacy is just the easiest option. Perhaps that’s why Tinder is so popular in NYC where there are reportedly close to one million users.

My friend Irene* is a pretty typical New Yorker on the dating scene and is a frequent user of dating apps. She had been chatting to a mathematician named Chris they decided to meet up at a bar.

After a few drinks they couldn’t wait any longer and next thing they were hooking up in the bathroom. They were soon busted and surprise, surprise were kicked out of the bar.

They got together for a second date and that was when he let on that he had a thing for public sex and wanted to go for it right there and then on the street. Irene suddenly realised what she had gotten herself into and decided that was beyond the realm of what she was up for.

She went back to swiping right on Tinder, after all there are plenty of fish in the sea to have a bit of fun with.

Ben* is a dear friend of mine from Sydney who is always out and about town.

By Monday morning he has a string of ridiculous and hilarious stories to recount from his weekend.

One time Ben was out on a date with a guy who had one too many martinis. It was a pretty boring and dull date and so he decided he needed to spice things up and find a more suitable candidate to have a bit of fun with. Luckily for him his next man of the moment was waiting for him in the bathroom.

They hooked up and afterwards he laughed and said he was actually on a date so he had better get back to it. The guy said how funny because he’d just hooked up with another dude on a date. Turns out they’d both hooked up with the same guy in the bathroom.

It made for much more interesting conversation upon returning to the table. Needless to say Ben had a hell of a time and they both couldn’t stop laughing about their promiscuity. They parted ways and never saw each other again but it made for a great story.

When Ben came to New York last year he had a lot of outrageous hook-ups. The best was when he was out a club one night with my roommate and decided to go home with this guy.

My roommate told him “just be careful, he’s from Harlem.” Ben got pretty paranoid and so texted the numberplate of their cab to his sister back home in Sydney as his date seemed kind of gangster.

When they got back to his apartment he put on a DVD of Whitney Houston Live Performances and they danced around in their underwear. The next morning they guy told him he wanted to see him again and that Ben was the type of guy he wanted to make his ‘boy’ but he would have to act like a lady. That was Ben’s cue to get the hell out of there and never call again.
