October’s eclipse in dramatic Scorpio promises a wild ride.

Unpredictable and erratic, eclipses spark major turning points, and if the eclipse happens to link with a personal placement in your chart, it won’t go unnoticed.

And if it happens to trigger your sun, moon or rising sign, you can bet a crossroad, crisis or change with a capital “C” is on the cards.

The solar eclipse will only be a partial eclipse, visible from parts of Europe, western Asia and north Africa in the early hours of October 25.

Eclipses inspire random and bizarre events, so it’s wise to avoid important undertakings until the celestial dust settles, typically two weeks on either side of the eclipse. However, if your sign hosts the eclipse, allow an extra week to ensure smooth sailing and a predictable outcome.

What not to do in a solar eclipse

Starting a new job, buying a house, scheduling elective surgery or getting hitched are all bad ideas in an eclipse.

But what if you’ve already signed on the dotted line? While eclipse energy can be challenging to navigate, the cosmos knows what’s in your best interests. This is why problems and conflicts are likely to arise when you have something different in mind than what the eclipse has in store.

When that happens, aim to go with the flow. Make your mantra: “I expect the unexpected and trust that the cosmos has my back.” By being flexible with the eclipse’s inevitable twists and turns, you can harness its favourable influence.

Because a solar eclipse occurs during a new moon, the upside can bring brilliant new beginnings and sparkling opportunities. Eclipses plant fated new seeds that later bloom into their full potential alongside weirdly wonderful possibilities that seemingly pop out of the blue.

Eclipse information for the astronomy buffs

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks the sun’s light from reaching the Earth.

The moon gets in between the sun and the Earth, casting a shadow on to the Earth.

Solar eclipses coincide with new moons.

They happen twice a year, six months apart, and they always occur in pairs, usually in zodiac opposite signs.

Not every solar eclipse is the same. A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon doesn’t completely cover the sun’s disc. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon fully conceals the sun. For a total solar eclipse to occur, the sun, moon and Earth must be in exact alignment.

An annular eclipse is a total eclipse, but a narrow ring of light around the sun can still be seen because of the moon’s distance.

There are three more types of solar eclipses which are rare variations of the main three described above.

A total solar eclipse can only be seen from the location where the centre of the moon’s shadow is cast on Earth.

Eclipses are determined by their proximity to the moon’s nodes, which are mathematical points that relate to the moon and Earth’s orbit across the ecliptic (the apparent path of the sun through the constellations).

Sagittarius
