Boyfriend dumped for ‘gross’ habit nearly half of men are guilty of

A woman “bamboozled” by her ex has shared the text message that outed his “disturbing” habit – a trait nearly half of men are guilty of.

How often should you change your bed sheets?

A woman has revealed the “disgusting” reason she dumped her boyfriend – but worrying statistics show he’s not the only man guilty of the “gross” household habit.

After being with her boyfriend for two years, the pair moved into their first home together, but within a few months she said she uncovered he had a “dirty” habit — he only changed his bed sheets twice a year.

Meanwhile, the unnamed woman took a very different approach to linen, insisting it needed to be washed every week.

This caused conflict between the two, with their fiery texts recently being shared to Reddit, after the woman decided to air their dirty laundry for the sake of helping others.

In the text conversation, the man – who hasn’t been named – originally claimed he washed his sheets every two months – which was still “disgusting” to his girlfriend.

“I can’t be the only one who think this is absolutely disgusting, right? Every two months is already really gross,” she wrote.

“Only twice a year is just NASTY.”

When she called him out for not changing the sheets as often as her, his response was: “If YOU want something done a certain way, then YOU gotta do it. That’s how it works.”

In a bid to prevent their bickering, the boyfriend offered up a solution to the “musty” sheets: spray air freshener on the bedding.

Understandably, his quick fix fell flat.

How often you should wash common household items has often caused debate, but experts have revealed bed sheets need to be washed every fortnight. This is to prevent a build up of dust mites, which feed off dead skin cells, sweat and bodily fluids.

Interestingly though, data released at the start of 2023 shows almost half (45 per cent) of single men admit they wait up to four months to wash their bed sheets.

If you thought that was bad, another 12 per cent said they wash them as and when they remember – which could be even longer.

Unsurprisingly, their bedding was changed more often once they were in a relationship, the British study determined.

This is most likely because women perform the majority of household chores according to a recent study by The Australian Bureau of Statistics.

It’s because of this, thousands empathised with the woman, who added the bed sheet discovery was “only the tip of the iceberg” in their doomed relationship.

“This exchange was maybe 3 months in. I only lasted another 5 months before I moved out and dumped him,” she wrote.

“He also never flushed the toilet. I would walk in and be greeted by his massive dumps. Or step in a p**s soaked tile.

“When we discussed moving in and chore habits, he only told me what I wanted to hear. I was bamboozled.”

She signed off her by addressing anyone who suggested he may be battling mental health issues, writing: “Before you ask, no he wasn’t depressed. Just super lazy, gross and entitled.”

Many flooded her post with support, labelling the bed sheet habit “foul” and “disturbing”.

“That’s so foul – I don’t think I could share a space with someone like that,” one wrote.

“Your ex is a walking red flag and gross. You dodged a particularly gross bullet there,” another added.
