Zero-waste detergent company Washland took to TikTok to create a two-part series to bust the myths on how often you should wash your everyday items.

People are divided over how often you should wash items such as your bras and linen after a washing brand busted the myth.

A company that creates zero-waste detergent sheets got the conversation going taking to TikTok to share a two-part series to bust the myths on how often you should wash your everyday items.

According to Washland Co, socks, undies, gym clothes and leggings should be washed after every wear, whereas bras should be cleaned every three to four wears, the brand claims.

Shirts should be washed every two to four wears and pyjamas should be thrown into the machine every three to five wears.

The brand claims towels should be washed one to two times a week but you don’t have to chuck linen into the machine until every fortnight.

But denim, unsurprising to most, can be washed every 10 wears.

Hoodies can last up to six wears but sweaters can only go two to three wears before you need to dump them in the dirty washing pile.

But not everyone agrees with the washing rules – with one person joking that the amount of times they wash their bra is between them and God.

“Bedding every two weeks? Gosh no. At least once a week, ideally every three days for comfort. There’s demodectic mites in them sheets you know,” one person commented on the video.

Another said: “The only thing I wear more than once is jeans or hoodies.”

A third added: “Bedding every two weeks? bruh the bed gets washed every quarter if I don't forget to do it lol.”

One added: “The last time I washed my hoodie was six month ago and I wear it daily.”

Others were stunned at how little people had to wash their clothing, with some claiming they wash everything after each wear.

“I am not a laundry princess, but I definitely wash more often than that,” one person said.

Another joked: “I change my shirt everyday cause I can’t keep food stains off them.”

A third added: “Shirts for me is every wear. and sheets once a week. Also towels after every use.”

Another asked how they should separate the worn from the entirely clean.

“Hmmm where do I store all those ‘worn’ clothes? Do I keep labelling them with number of wears???? Special hidden smelling boxes?”
