Girlfriend of missing swimmer vows to keep looking for him

The heartbroken girlfriend of a man missing since Saturday after being caught in a rip has vowed to keep searching for him.

Kyle Schroduer, 21, disappeared while swimming at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast at 4.30pm on Saturday.

An air and water search for the Brisbane man has been under way since he went missing, however, authorities have so far been unable to locate Mr Schroduer.

His girlfriend Samantha Meyers, 20, took to Facebook over the weekend to urge people to “hold your loved ones close”.

“For those who don’t know, Kyle had been swept in a rip yesterday afternoon at Coolum Beach and search and rescue teams are still on the hunt,” she wrote yesterday.

“Please keep your loved ones close!

“We won’t stop ’til we find you; we love you endlessly.”

Ms Meyer’s post attracted over 100 comments from equally devastated friends of the couple who wrote they “didn’t really know what to say” and were “praying for a safe return”.

Queensland Police, Surf Life Saving Queensland and the state’s Coast Guard spent yesterday combing the coastline for any sign of Mr Schroduer.

Mr Schroduer was last seen by friends swimming near Stumers Creek Road at about 4.30pm when he is believed to have become caught in a rip.

Police were alerted shortly after and began searching for him alongside Surf Life Saving crews and Coast Guard personnel.

They searched again yesterday, with Surf Life Saving Queeland telling news.com.au efforts were continuing today.

“Surf Life Saving Queensland resumed the search for the missing swimmer at 5am,” the spokesperson said.

“Three waverunners (jet skis) and three Inflatable Rescue Boats are searching water between “First Bay Coolum and Sunshine Beach. Four 4WDs/ATVs are assisting the search on the sand.

“A drone will search from the sky later this morning.”
