“So many women are focused on how their body looks after childbirth but many women don’t even think about what’s happening internally,” she said, adding, “in particular the function of the pelvic floor and whether they have diastasis recti (ab separation).
“Both are unfortunately often overlooked after birth.”
After giving birth to her first child, Mia, two, Skye said she struggled with pregnancy, particularly developing back problems and having ab separation.

The fitness entrepreneur behind Emily Skye Fit, said everything was a battle, from getting out of bed to walking, but labelled the worst thing the changes to her core and the ab separation — something she is facing again.
“I haven’t started any exercise yet apart from doing pelvic floor work and specific core work to help heal my ab separation,” she told her followers on Wednesday.
“It’s very gentle but it’s already making a difference and my abs are not far off being back together.
“My pelvic floor is recovering well. It all takes time and we must be gentle with ourselves and have patience, which is my downfall to be honest,” adding, that she is “working on it”.

Emily advised her followers who have given birth not to “rush” into exercising with the advice resonating with many fans.
“Ensuring your diastasis recti and pelvic floor is healed after childbirth is so important so please don’t overlook them and rush into exercising,” she wrote.
“It’s never too late to start healing them but it is best to get on top of it sooner rather than later so you don’t risk making things worse and harder to heal down the track.”
She recommended her followers “learn as much” as they can about how to get the pelvic floor functioning normally and how to heal (ab separation).
“The best way to do this is to find a reputable women’s physiotherapist or similar. They can assess you and give you a personalised program to help your body get back to functioning the way it should,” Emily said.
Many agreed that diastasis recti is not talked about enough and thanked her for educating and empowering women. Some also shared their own experiences.
“I’m five months post-partum and my diastasis recti is finally almost healed and yesterday for the first time I was able to put my socks on standing up instead of sitting down, due to my hips being completely ruined. You’re doing so well!” one follower wrote.
“You (Emily) look great! I’m almost 3 mos post-partum and been working on pelvic floor exercises. Can’t wait to be able to do regular and workouts,” added another mum.
