Mum’s photo of eight-year-old daughter’s lunch sparks fury
A mother took to Facebook to share a picture of her daughter’s lunch that featured a roll, cut veggies, a doughnut and a packet of Pringles.
An image shared to a lunch box social media page has divided viewers.
The woman took to the Facebook page to share an image of her eight-year-old’s lunch, which included a sandwich, cut up tomatoes and cucumbers, strawberries and blueberries, banana yoghurt, jelly, a doughnut, a bag of Pringles, a rocky road bar and a cake.
Her daughter also typically has two eggs for breakfast each day.
“She will smash most, if not all, of this and still raid the cupboards when she gets home,” the mother revealed.
Many social media users were quick to slam the woman’s food choices for her daughter.
“It’s all empty calories sugar and artificial ingredients. I’d be hungry if that was my lunch,” one person wrote.
Another user said: “I’m an old duck and all I can see is processed sugar, and preservatives keep the fruit yoghurt and tomato and cucumber but I would dump the rest.
“She’s raiding the cupboard because all the processed food is sending her insulin up then plummeting quickly and sending her on the search for empty carbs.”
One social media user added: “Looks like a massive amount of sugar to me. No wonder she’s still hungry when she gets home. No protein in sight!”
But many have pointed out the huge issue with shaming the mother, who took on the protein suggestions, over the lunch.
“Oh NO you’re feeding your child. How awful of you,” one social media sarcastically commented.
“As a residential youth worker 1700 kids in Queensland on average don’t go to school with any lunch let alone have breakfast. You are doing AMAZING!”
Another said: “Ha! So funny. If she had poured the yoghurt, jelly, fruit and salad bits and Pringles into pretty containers, broken up the muesli bar (to look home made), removed the Gatorade bottle all would be right with the lunch and the world. Madness.”
Another praised her daughter for eating fruit, saying, “I wish my kids would the veg! This is also typically what my kids would have, because if I try and be fancy it just all comes back home. They are fed, healthy and happy!”
One simply put it: “I can’t believe posts like this. In the society we live in that Mums feel the need to judge another Mum by what they feed their children!!! I bet you wouldn’t have the balls to say it to them in person!”
According to Health Direct, eight-year-olds are supposed to have four serves of grain, four-and-a-half serves of vegetables, two serves of dairy and one-and-a-half serves of fruit and meat.
