A lot of planning goes into home renovations - whether you’re sprucing up an entire house or giving your bedroom a modern makeover.

One DIY fanatic knows a little something about this, which is why she’s come up with a genius way to help her along the way.

Posting on Facebook, DIY enthusiast Cathy Mogg revealed that there was one thing she did before tackling the mammoth renovating task and that’s draw up a scaled plan of what the room looked like.

In order to come up with the accurate drawing, Cathy said she divided the room by 10 then halved so it fit on an A4 piece of paper.

“I always draw out the room first including doorways, windows radiators and any issues,” she said.

“The furniture is also drawn to scale but it’s cut out so I can move it around, I used to draw it on but had to do too many drafts.

“If the furniture has moving parts (like the changing table) which make it bigger/smaller I include it as a foldable flap.”

“It’s amazing as I buy most of my stuff second-hand on market place. Having the dimensions mean I can get in there and grab a bargain.”

She wondered if she was the only one who went to such efforts before tackling a room, and posted in the FAMILY LOCKDOWN TIPS & IDEAS Facebook group to ask.

“Does anyone else plan out their rooms like this before redecorating??”

And while she admitted that her “husband thinks I’m mad”, Cathy was met with a huge response from people praising her idea.

More than 1000 creative DIY-ers admitted to even doing something similar themselves, using drawings or even apps on their phone to plan the space.

“That is the only way to plan a room, any other is improvisation not planning,” they said.

Another shared: “My wife does the same kind of thing on her computer. She is mad but it’s useful.”

And a third said: “I always do this! He thinks I’m insane, but really I don’t want to have to do it twice if stuff doesn’t fit”.

One person even suggested enlisting the help of Ikea and said: “Not mad in fact Ikea used to give out bedroom planners like this.”

And another agreed: “100% I also use Ikea planner or there’s an app as well called room planner. I also screenshot different layouts in case I fancy move around.”

While some admitted they hadn’t done it, they were seriously impressed by the clever idea and vowed to try it themselves.

“It’s organised, I like it,” one fan wrote, and another chimed in: “Omg can’t believe how many people actually do it, never done it in my life.”
