Aldi Special Buys: Supermarket selling giant 82-inch TV for $1299

The supermarket is selling a giant version of a popular Special Buys item – while it’s not cheap, it is still half the price of leading brands.

Aldi: The best special buys of all time

With two of Australia’s biggest cities in lockdown, it seems like there’s no better time to transform your home into a literal cinema.

If that’s your jam then Aldi has you sorted, with the German supermarket bringing out its biggest TV ever – an 82-inch Smart TV.

It is the “biggest ever” TV sold by Aldi and will be available online only as part of the brand’s Special Buys this Saturday, meaning there’s no need to line up at your local store.

The whopping screen means you’ll want to have a bit of space for it – or perhaps more accurately, an entire wall free – if you want it to fit.

Priced at $1299, the Bauhn 4K Ultra HD Smart TV powered by WebOS comes with a voice control remote, live TV recording, 4K ultra high definition and direct links to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on your remote.

While it’s not cheap, it is still a saving when compared to similar-sized TVs from other brands which can cost upwards of $2500.

Also available online from Saturday is a Lyte Mini Portable Projector for $99, while in stores there will be technology bargains like a more modest 40-inch smart TV for $329 or a portable party speaker for $249.

Aldi’s big TVs have proved popular during Special Buys sales, with it selling a “cinematic” 75-inch TV last month.

Aldi’s massive change to Special Buys

The 82-inch TV is just the latest in a range of items Aldi has made available to purchase online since May when it offered a mattress and French door fridge via its website.

Aldi announced it would be trialling the sale of items online in March with a focus on bulky or high value products.

Currently there are no plans to sell groceries online but the supermarket is closely monitoring the online store for feedback, Aldi Australia group director of customer interactions Simon Padovani previously said.

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience for our customers and are very excited to be taking our first steps into e-commerce,” he said.

“Our limited initial online offer allows us to set the foundations for our future program.

“We encourage customers to check our catalogue and website for exciting new online offers every week.”
