A woman on the hunt for a Hamptons style mirror has managed to save herself a heap of money after creating her own using a $40 Kmart item.

A Sydney woman has managed to save $150 after replicating an expensive Hamptons style mirror using Kmart items.

Jess Burns, 28, who is currently in the middle of building her dream home, has been on the hunt for a classic and sophisticated mirror to match her beach vibes vision.

However, with some prices out of her budget, the young homeowner decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I’ve always wanted a Hamptons style mirror, but whenever I’ve looked online the ones I’ve wanted are about $200 and they can go up to about $700,” Jess told news.com.au

And with the hefty expenses that already come with building a home, Jess said she couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars on just one mirror — especially when she wanted four.

Instead, she bought Kmart’s arch mirror for $40, some craft white paint for $2 and $20 worth of seal tape from eBay, and created her own.

“At first I was wondered if I could stick wood on the mirror because the one I really liked had real wood, but it was just too tricky,” she said.

“Then I thought, ‘OK, what do they actually look like’ and that’s when I thought of the rubber and managed to find it online.

“They were already sticky too so I didn’t have to worry about gluing it on.”

Jess then spent about half an hour on each of the four mirrors, measuring and cutting the rubber to her liking, before sticking it on.

She then painted the black mirrors white, with paint from the crafts section at Kmart.

Admittedly, Jess said she wasn’t sure at how it would turn out, but was quite proud of the end result.

“They turned out better than I expected,” she laughed.

She decided to share it in the popular Facebook group Kmart, Hacks and Decor in the hopes it would inspire others also on a budget who are after a similar look.

“I made my own Hamptons style mirror, using the Kmart mirror, and some rubber seal tape from eBay. I needed to buy two strips of this tape to do one mirror,” she wrote in her post.

It has since been ‘liked’ more than 1,500 times with hundreds of DIY lovers praising it as “clever” and “creative”.

“What a great idea – looks great. Very creative you are,” one woman wrote.

“Looks incredible, what a great idea,” said another, while others said it reminded them of the arch windows in Playschool.

“I couldn’t think of what these reminded me of then it hit me ‘itsssss play school” haha These look great tho,” one person wrote.

Jess said she could also see the resemblance after reading the comments about the Playschool references,

“I thought it was really funny,” she said.
