Kmart shoppers transforming $39 Noir Coffee Table
Shoppers are bombarding social media with their “incredible” hacks of one particular Kmart item.
Kmart shoppers have discovered an affordable coffee table and are giving it a complete overhaul, with some describing designs similar to high-end versions.
Taking to the popular Facebook group – Kmart Home Decor – one woman shared her clever revamp of the $39 table, adding a concrete top.
“Not the smooth concrete finish I had planned but now I’m loving the rustic look, I think it has character!” she wrote in the group that boasts half a million followers.
She explained the concrete was sealed with an acrylic sealant to prevent stains and cracks.
And to her surprise, she said the table, which has a holding capacity of 5kg, “doesn’t tip as easily as it used to”.
“(The) table actually seems more stable now than without the concrete, legs/screws are coping fine with the weight,” she wrote in the comments section.
She added that having the concrete “definitely helped”.
“It used to tip if someone rested their feet on it. It doesn’t anymore.”
While the mum-of-three didn’t share where she bought the concrete, bags of quickset concrete mix can be purchased from Bunnings for as little as $7.70 for 20kg.
“Wow you would pay lots of money for something like that in a fancy furniture/decor shop,” one member of the group commented.
A quick Google search will reveal similar designs can cost anywhere from $200, to more than $500.
“Looks great, you’re right it has character! Think if it was smooth then would just be an ordinary coffee table,“ another person wrote.
“Wow! That looks incredible,” a third added.
Some said the revamp inspired them to give it a go, while others shared their transformations of the $39 table.
“I’m a tiler by trade and turned mine into this,” one man wrote, showing a picture of his tiled table top.
The tradie went on to describe how he did it after getting bombarded with questions from DIY enthusiasts asking for tips.
“I cut a round sheet of villaboard to suit table size and used extra strong sikaflex to adhere to table, then primed villaboard and glued/grouted tiles before sealing,” the man said.
Another Kmart fan took to TikTok to share their “hack”, spray-painting the black table in rose gold.
“OMG love this,” one person commented.
“Love it,” said another.
