Aussies ruthlessly mock US over electric kettle story
Aussies have joined Brits in savagely mocking the US for being way behind the times when it comes to kitchen appliances.
The internet is hilariously mocking the US for “discovering” electric kettles in 2022.
The New York Times recently published an article, with the headline: “A swift and easy way to heat water without using a stove”. It shared a list of the publication’s top product picks.
“Consider the electric kettle,” the article urged readers.
The ridicule first started when a British Twitter user shared a now-viral screenshot of the story, but Aussies have since jumped on the bandwagon.

Australian journalist Benjamin Law shared a screenshot on Instagram, prompting fierce mockery down under.
“Kettles are a new thing there? I knew they were living in the 1940s but I didn’t know it was that bad …” wrote one person.
“They might even start drinking decent coffee one day,” added another.
“My grandparents used to destroy an electric kettle each visit to Australia, by putting it on the stove,” explained another.
One person savagely declared: “All pointless, Americans are incapable of making decent tea or coffee anyway”.

Australian stand-up comedian Josh Earl wrote on Twitter: “Americans love to bang on about being the greatest country in the world yet they are just discovering kettles.”
In defence, some American users explained electric kettles were slower to use there due to much lower voltage in the US compared with the UK and Australia.
It appears the NY Times story is now titled “The best electric kettle”.
