Kmart has recalled a popular product and told customers to “immediately stop” using it after reports it explodes.

The Anko Glass Flip Pickle Jar went viral on TikTok for its ability to separate pickles from their juice.

But after several serious incidents, the discount has urgently recalled versions of the product sold between February 15, 2023 and March 3, 2025.

The statement confirmed the product was hazardous as it could result in “serious injury from lacerations”.

“The affected product can break when used to store certain fruit or vegetables in liquid,”
the recall statement read.

“Fermented food stores in affected products can build up gas and cause the jar to explode or make the lid difficult to remove.”

This was corroborated by numerous comments on the post.

One woman wrote, “I had already thrown mine out because yes, it kept being really hard to open!” and another said, “I was wondering how long this was gonna take to happen, the first one I bought I broke it opening it...”

Other people said they would continue to use the product despite the recall because “it’s been working perfectly for me”, or “mine has been fine. Not returning”.

The recall comes after two customers shared their near-miss experiences with the Glass Flip Pickle Jar.

In 2024 a woman said “glass went flying everywhere” and narrowly missed her eye when the jar exploded.

She wrote that she “heard a loud bang” and was led to believe it was an exploding light, not the product.

In January, a second customer, Sally Asplin, posted a photo to a Facebook group of more than 600,000 showing the shattered product in her fridge.

Beetroot can be seen splattered everywhere and the shelf has become dislodged from the explosion.

Kmart said in their product safety recall that “Customers should immediately stop using the product and return to the nearest Kmart store for a refund with or without a receipt”.
