Emily Skye opens up about bloating struggles

Bloating — it’s something plenty of women struggle with and now Emily Skye has proved it happens to the best of us.

The popular Aussie fitness guru, who has a combined social media following of more than 12 million, took to her Instagram this morning to reveal the “drastic” changes to her body as a result of the condition.

She posted two side-by-side images that showed her toned tummy compared to her bloated tummy. The photos were taken just days apart.

“I deviated a little from what I normally eat which keeps my stomach happy and this is what’s happened!!” she said in the caption.

Skye, who is the creator of online fitness program Emily Skye Fit, said she treated herself to Thai food on Saturday, which she believes is the cause.

“I have a feeling it’s still that hanging around.”

Skye, who gave birth to her first child Mia Elise Redmond in December 2017, is known for sharing honest, raw snaps of herself, especially after giving birth, and wanted her followers to know she too has body struggles.

“Most of you know I like to show you me at my best and at my worst so you know it’s normal for your body to fluctuate like this!!”

Despite dressed for a workout, the new mum said the bloating was putting her off to train as she felt lethargic and had cramps.

Despite being in her activewear and ready for a workout, the 34-year-old who hails from Queensland admitted she didn’t feel like training as her bloated tummy made her feel lethargic and she was also cramping.

“But I thought if I move a little bit I’ll feel better and I wont regret it,” she laughed as she talked more of her bloating in her Instagram story.

“I feel lethargic. I don’t feel as strong, energetic or happy. It just proves your gut is linked to mental health.”

She explained that if you’re constantly bloating it’s important to get checked out by a doctor who specialises in gut health to get to the bottom of the cause.

But she also emphasised to her followers it’s normal to occasionally feel bloated, and not to stress.

She emphasised to her millions of followers that the occasional bloating is normal and not to feel so bad about it.

“It is totally normal so try not to beat yourself up about it as most of us get bloated from time to time. It can be hard sometimes (believe me I know) but try to love yourself through the good and the bad. It’s something I am consistently working on doing too.”

The brutally honest post has generated more than 55,000 likes and over a thousand comments from fellow women who thanked Skye for “normalising” bloating.

It also prompted women to share their experiences.

“I have this exact same problem. The struggle is so real. This happens when I eat Chinese, among many, many other foods,” one follower said.

“It’s crazy! I’m the same. Food definitely changes my stomach/bloat. I’m cutting out dairy,” another added.

“This is one of the most body positive accounts I follow! So important! said a third.

NO STRANGER TO BLOATING

It’s not the first time Skye has shared bloated snaps and videos of herself.

She recently shared a “real life” photo with her fans that illustrated how in some positions you can clearly see her “wrinkly tummy skin” (after giving birth), while in others it’s all about her abs.

“Both of these photos are ‘real life’ — just because you take a ‘nice’ photo with good posture or good lighting doesn’t mean it’s not real life — it’s just a part of yourself or your life that you’ve chosen to show,” Skye said alongside the comparison images.

Skye vowed she would get back to her former physique after giving birth to Mia, and while she may not “look” the same, she said overall she feels stronger than ever.

Previously she said she was aware it wasn’t going to be a quick and easy journey but she embraced the changes to her body and focused on slowly building her strength.

Skye said she has been working on her cardio fitness which isn’t something she would normally do, as she isn’t a fan of the type of exercise.

“I’ve moved on from cardio for the time being and I’m focusing back on strength training,” Skye said.

“I love love love lifting heavy weights and love what it does for my body and mind! It makes me strong physically and mentally and I feel like I can do anything!!”
