World Cheese Day: 45 per cent Deliveroo customers want more cheese with orders
There might be a wealth of different foods to get on delivery apps, but it turns out we can’t get enough of one simple product.
With lockdown and now the cooler weather upon us it’s no surprise that more of us have been giving our food delivery apps a workout.
It turns out most of us have a type when it comes to ordering takeaway as well, with Deliveroo revealing nearly half of its customers will ask for “extra cheese, please” on orders.
A survey of 1000 conducted by the food delivery company revealed that cheese was the most added ingredient to food orders, with 45 per cent of people requesting it.

It found 88 per cent of responders said pizza was their favourite cheesy dish to order, followed by pasta at 71 per cent and burgers at 69 per cent.
Good ol’ classic cheddar was the cheese of choice, followed by brie, parmesan, camembert, feta and blue cheese.
To celebrate World Cheese Day tomorrow Deliveroo has a special offer for cheese lovers – they’re giving away free cheese and wine.
The delivery company will be shouting freebies on orders made from their Deliveroo Deli stores between June 4-8.
HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT MAC ’N’ CHEESE
Meanwhile if all these cheese talk has got you craving it bad (sorry) you should definitely, absolutely, try making MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo’s OTT mac ’n’ cheese recipe.
Rather than using just one type of cheese, Jock recommends using four different types to get the perfect cheesy mixture.
His recipe uses a mixture of blue cheese, taleggio, smoked cheddar and fontina.
“Those are the best four cheese in combination to use for a cheese sauce, categorically,” Jock said of the combination.
“There is no better, that’s a fact, take it to the bank.”

JOCK’S PERFECT MAC ’N’ CHEESE SAUCE
Ingredients
600g milk
60g unsalted butter, diced
60g plain flour
130g creamy blue cheese, diced
130g sharp aged smoked cheddar, coarsely grated
130g fontina, coarsely grated
130g taleggio, coarsely grated
Salt flakes, to season
Cracked white pepper, to season
Method
1. Bring milk to a simmer in a medium saucepan over a high heat.
2. On a medium heat, melt butter in a medium saucepan.
3. Remove the pan and add in flour, whisking to mix well. Then return the pan to the heat again and cook for another minute.
4. Next slowly add the heated milk in a large ladleful at a time, whisking the mixture smooth after each time you add. Return the saucepan to a high heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Then reduce the heat to medium and simmer for a further two minutes, or until it starts to thicken.
5. Next add the cheeses and simmer the sauce for a further four to five minutes or until the mixture melts. Whisk the mixture as needed and add salt and pepper to season.
6. Pass the sauce through a fine strainer into a clean saucepan and keep warm over low heat until you’re ready to mix with your macaroni and serve up.
