McDonald’s Australia shuts down chocolate soft-serve rumour

The fast-food giant has issued a statement after rumours began circulating online a highly sought-after menu item was now sold nationwide.

Macca’s finally expands chocolate soft-serve

McDonald’s has issued an important statement about the highly-sought after chocolate soft serve following rumours the menu item was now available nationally.

The fast food giant quietly launched the ice cream last September in select stores across NSW, Queensland and South Australia, in addition to its beloved vanilla variety.

At the time, fans declared it “tastes like chocolate custard”, begging McDonald’s to “please keep” the flavour and make it a permanent addition.

Despite its rave reviews though, many Australians were left out in the cold, with the tasty trial only happening at a select number of restaurants.

Which is why when popular Sydney food blogger Adrian Widjy revealed in a recent video that McDonald’s was “finally expanding [its] chocolate soft serve’s availability and range” – people were understandably excited.

However, Macca’s has since revealed the product is not actually available “nationwide” as many claimed.

“It’s great to see so much excitement for the Chocolate Soft Serve, but McDonald’s Australia is currently still trialling the product in select restaurants across the country,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.

However, the good news is the “trial has expanded to include more restaurants across Australia”, but it is still only at participating stores.

Adrian had tried to warn his 201,500 followers in his video about the caveat, but it didn’t stop excited Aussies from going nuts in the comments and claiming it was now sold “nationwide”.

“It’s coming nationwide I believe. My store in WA is getting a new machine soon,” one stated.

While one disappointed viewer said they’d tried three different stores with “no luck”.

Despite the difficulties getting hold of the much-wanted dessert, those who can get their mitts on it were delighted.

“Finally in my area!” said one.

“These look so good,” commented another, with a third writing: “Yummm.”

“It literally tastes like a chocolate Paddle Pop,” someone else declared.

It’s not the only Macca’s dessert getting fast-food fans excited, with the highly sought-after Caramilk Hokey Pokey McFlurry sending Aussies into a spin recently.

News of the ice-cream was leaked online before McDonald’s Australia later confirmed it was true in a statement to news.com.au about its recently released summer menu items.

“The early rumours are true,” McDonald’s marketing director Tim Kenward said.

“At Macca’s, we believe great combinations make summer special and we have a few more surprises in store, so stay tuned.

“We can’t wait to come together for another Aussie summer.”

Alongside the McFlurry, which was available to buy from November 30, the global chain bought back the “fan favourite” El Maco burger and its Cheesy Jalapeño Pops.

This time the Cheesy Jalapeño Pops – which were loved for being “crispy on the outside” while having an “oozy” filling – come complete with the tangy El Maco dipping sauce.

The pair were last served back in 2019.

It also released a new spin on a classic burger, the Cajun Chicken Deluxe.
