MasterChef star Brendan Pang can’t wipe the smile off his face after landing a dream collaboration with supermarket giant Woolworths.

An NBL-themed 'Slam Dunk' dumpling

MasterChef star Brendan Pang has just landed a “dream” deal with a major Aussie supermarket.

For the past six months, the Perth-based cook, known as the “dumpling king”, has been working on a collaboration with Woolies to sell three of his most popular offerings – pork and ginger dumplings, chicken and prawn dumplings and classic juicy pork xiao long bao – and as of Thursday, his products will finally hit select stores.

“It’s something you dream about but don’t think it would actually happen,” Brendan told news.com.au.

Brendan, who is of Chinese-Mauritian heritage, won the hearts of Aussies after appearing on MasterChef in 2018 and 2020, going from a social worker, opening his own restaurant Bumplings and launching a cookbook, to now having his much-loved dumplings available to Aussies around the country.

“It’s definitely a very proud feeling and humbling to know I’ve created something inspired by my family’s recipes – just to maintain that part of me,” he said.

All three products will hit stores on June 16.

“I love cooking and sharing my knowledge in the kitchen, but what I love most is sharing my food with others to enjoy.

“I’ve always had questions from people across Australia asking when and how they can try

my dumplings, and I’m thrilled to now say this is the answer.”

Dumpling lovers can now get their hands on Brendan’s pork and ginger dumplings (his favourite), chicken and prawn, and classic juicy pork xiao long bao.

He was taught to make the wonton filled parcels by his grandmother at the age of nine and has gone to rightfully earn the title of “dumpling king” by his legion of Instagram followers.

“I’m most proud about the quality of the produce and the attention to detail that goes into crafting these dumplings,” Brendan said.

He said there was something unique about the shape of his dumplings, which isn’t something you often see with other brands sold at major supermarkets.

“They come in a very traditional boat shape – this way it holds more sauce on the sides and can be cooked in different ways,” Brendan said.

“I find a lot of other dumplings with different shapes break off.”

He said while steaming is good, he prefers to pan fry his dumplings.

“You get the best of both worlds – crispy on the bottom and soft on the top.”

Brendan said he has been perfecting the recipes for years with the flavour and look, staying true to who he is and how he wants his food to be presented.

He also said each dumpling is finished by hand – an important part of its authenticity.

“I have personally worked on perfecting these recipes and am excited to finally be able to share them with Australia,” Brendan said.
