Arnott’s reveal little detail about Jatz and Savoy crackers

‘What the hell are these’: New Arnott’s treats

The difference between two popular crackers from one of Australia’s biggest brands has been revealed — and exactly where you can get each.

Arnott’s sells both Jatz and Savoy crackers, with Savoy branded ones typically found in Victoria and Tasmania.

But, one Reddit user recently posed the question to the towns Albury and Wodonga, which sit on the New South Wales and Victorian border.

“People of Albury/Wodonga – which one of these do you get? Genuine question. What Arnott’s cracker is at your local Woolies or Coles,” the Reddit user asked.

“Do you get the Jatz or the Savoy?”

Many social media users had answers.

“You can get both on the border in the same shop. Until reading the other comments in this post, I always wondered what the deal was, I thought they were the same thing. Thank you all for removing one of my life’s great unsolved mysteries,” one said.

Another revealed: “My local IGA in the western suburbs actually stocks both. Was a pleasant surprise when I found out, I prefer the texture of Jatz over Savoy.”

“Fairfield IGA also stocks both,” someone else chimed in.

One added: “Both but anyone who says they’re the same biscuit is a liar. they’re so different in texture. Savoy supremacy everyday.”

An Arnott’s spokesperson didn’t speak to whether or not the crackers are sold in both areas, but they did confirm what many suspected — there is a key difference in the biscuits.

“Savoy crackers were originally made in Melbourne by the Brockhoff biscuit company. Arnott’s joined with this company in the 1960s and decided to keep both Savoy and Jatz because consumers in both states were equally passionate about their local brands,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“The difference in the recipes is very minor – Jatz contains Malt while Savoy contains Golden Syrup.”

It’s not the first time the debate about the crackers, which are also available in a gluten free version, has broken out. In 2020, the brand even confirmed that sometimes Jatz and Savoy end up across the border in places such as Albury and customers think Arnott’s have changed the recipe, not realising there are two variants.
