A man’s bizarre tradition of buttering his Milk Arrowroot biscuits has gone viral online.

Jayden Wright shared a photo of the Milk Arrowroots in an Australian nostalgia Facebook group, asking who else loved their sweet biscuits slathered with butter.

The post quickly went viral, with more than 470 comments and 1700 reactions, with commenters saying it brought back memories, and many saying they still loved to butter their biscuits. The popular Facebook group said the unassuming post had ended up being their most popular of the week.

But some disagreed, calling the snack “decadent” and saying there was just “too much” butter.

“I had forgotten about this! I am so reinstating it in my life,” one woman wrote.

“The only way to eat them,” another said.

“My mum put a slab of butter on arrowroots. no thin sliver for her,” another said.

“When I was a kid I did this also with Vegemite,” one man said. “These days I still put margarine on Milk Coffee biscuits, Scotch Finger biscuits & Nice biscuits.”

“Oh yum! I’m weird I will also sometimes add cheese. Or I’ve had peanut butter on them. I love Milk Arrowroot,” another said.

Another remembered icing Milk Arrowroots for special occasions.

“Brings back memories,” she said. “Mum also used to ice them top half pink and bottom half chocolate. They were then called Humpty Dumpty biscuits and served at children’s birthday parties in the 60s. How times have changed!”

But some couldn‘t believe people were buttering their biscuits.

“Butter?! That’s just so decadent,” one person wrote. “I used to slather them with strawberry jam, trying to make knock-off jam fancies.”

Another Twitter user called it “cursed”, adding “Boomers be like ‘Millennials waste their money on avocado’ then have this for a snack”.

“Way too much butter,” another said.
